The term “lighting system” means the elements required to maintain a desired light level, including lamps, light fixtures, fixture distribution, sensors and control technologies, interior design elements, and daylighting sources.

A lighting control system incorporates communication between various system inputs and outputs related to lighting control with the use of one or more central computing devices. Lighting control systems are widely used on both indoor and outdoor lighting of commercial, industrial, and residential spaces.

Lighting control systems enable more efficient monitoring of electrical output. Entire sections can be plotted in accordance to use, while management of consumption and billing is made far easier. Faults are automatically reported and rooms that are unoccupied no longer waste energy.

For example, the controlled lighting method is used when the width of the lighted strip outside an area must be controlled and adjusted to fit a particular need, such as illuminating a wide strip inside a fence and a narrow strip outside, or lighting a wall or roof.

High quality means that the lighting system provides good colours (rendering and preference), low glare, no temporal light artifacts (flicker and stroboscopic effects), attractive contrast differences and distribution of light in the environment, no audible noise and being safe.
